Charles Levison

Charles Levison is an impressionistic fine artist based in Lilongwe, Malawi, whose acrylic and oil paintings capture the landscapes, village life, and cultural identity of his homeland. From the towering peaks of Mount Mulanje to the daily rhythms of rural communities, his work is a vibrant celebration of Malawian life rendered through bold colour and expressive brushwork. His practice is rooted in the belief that art is a vehicle for social change. Charles has exhibited at Jacaranda Cultural Center and Art in the Park events in Lilongwe, and his work has been featured in international charity auctions organised by Rare Charity UK, raising funds for girls’ education scholarships in Thyolo, Malawi. He teaches art at a private school in Lilongwe and leads Art Cycle Malawi, a community initiative combining creativity with environmental awareness. As Vice Secretary of the Film Association of Malawi (FAMA), Charles advocates for the growth and visibility of Malawi’s creative industries. He is also the founder and festival director of the Cape Maclear International Film Festival (CMIFF), bringing African cinema to the shores of Lake Malawi. A BED Computer Science student, he bridges the worlds of art and technology, building digital platforms that amplify African creative voices.
